Statement of Faith

God

We believe there is only one true and living sovereign God who is infinite, eternal, and unchanging in His being and who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality. We believe God is love, holy and righteous, all powerful, all knowledgeable, and all present and is the creator and ruler of the universe, yet He is mindful of His creation and determines to redeem the world because of humanity’s fallenness. We believe that God has revealed Himself and His truth in the created order and in history to all humanity through His chosen people, through the prophets, the Old and New Testaments, and especially through His own Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ

We believe the Word existed from the beginning with the Father and became incarnated in Jesus. We believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin birth through Mary to identify with humanity. He is fully God and fully man, two natures in one person. He is the sustainer of all creations and through Him all things were created for His sake—the visible and the invisible. We believe Jesus is sinless, yet He took our place to die on the Cross as the perfect sacrificial lamb to atone for our sin so that those who believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit and will receive the gift of eternal life and become the children of God. We believe Jesus died from crucifixion and was buried, but was raised from the dead on the third day by the power of the Holy Spirit and ascended into heaven to be with God the Father as our high priest and advocate.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit as the third person of the holy triune God. He convicts the world with guilt. He draws sinners to Jesus for salvation. He is our pledge of eternal life. He enables us believers to understand the Scriptures, empowers us for godly living, and equips us for service and witness. He gives gifts to the disciples of Jesus Christ to proclaim the Gospel in every nation throughout the world and to empower the body of Christ as the Church to be the salt and light of the world. We believe the Holy Spirit is the giver of life and the power of all things. He is our comforter and healer who comforts us when we are in sorrow and pain and heals us when we are sick and wounded. He is our guide in our daily walk with Christ Jesus. He is our teacher who teaches us to understand the Word of God and He puts words in our mind when we cannot utter words in prayer. We believe in the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, for the edification of the body of believers, and enabling the believer to live a life pleasing to God.

Humanity

We believe God created humanity, both man and woman, in God’s own image. It is God’s will for humanity to flourish and to fill the earth He created. He wants humanity to rule over His creation, to take care of all the living creatures of the earth, but humanity was tempted by the devil and subsequently rebelled against God. Because of human rebellion, we believe the power of sin has taken control over humanity and corrupts the world. Humanity on its own is unable to save itself because of its fallen nature after sin entered the world. We are in need of God’s redemption to restore our human condition through our Savior Jesus Christ who is the sinless Adam.

Sin

Sin is transgression of God’s law. Sin has the power not only to enslave humanity but it has an effect on the cosmos as well. Sin damaged the image which God had created in us. Sin has overtaken our ability to choose for ourselves salvation and to follow God. However, total depravity does not mean humankind is all evil and wicked. By God’s prevenient grace, we are kept from doing all evil and by God’s common grace we are kept alive to continue to enjoy all the provisions that God has provided us through His creation. We believe it is through God’s prevenient grace that humanity is able to respond to God’s salvation by accepting Jesus’ atonement for our sin on the Cross. We believe that it is the work and the power of the Holy Spirit that God draws us to Himself to be reconciled with Him by the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ who cleanses us from all sins so that we may become children of God. We believe when we are saved by God’s saving grace through our faith in Christ Jesus’ righteousness in us, we are a new creation and sin no longer has power over us.

Salvation

We believe salvation is an eternal gift from God and we are saved by the grace of God through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the Cross for our sin. We believe God’s salvation brought us back to be with Him forever on earth and in Heaven. Because of our salvation, we are reconciled with God again through His Son Jesus Christ. One greatest benefit of salvation, apart from the gift of eternal life, is our ability is to live life as a conqueror. We are able to resist temptation with the help of the Holy Spirit. We will no longer have to live under the influence of the darkness or subject to the dominion of the evil forces. We are able to praise and declare the glorious name of Jesus and worship the triune God in His wonderful light. We can live a life more abundantly with God’s spiritual blessing and the presence of the Holy Spirit. We can receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit to enable us to do God’s ministry and to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others to save the corrupt world.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God which is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the people of God may be thoroughly equipped in doing every good work for Jesus’ glory. We believe the sixty-six books of both the Old and New Testaments are God’s infallible Word in revealing His divine will to humanity and are canonical. All scriptures in the Bible ought to be held with the highest regard and authority in governing our faith and living. The Bible, therefore, should be the only book to be used for preaching the Word of God in the Church today to edify the believers and to give instructions for holy living. As the Bible has Its place of authority, thus the preaching and teaching of God’s Word must be handled with utmost faithfulness and care by all preachers and teachers, not to utter anything that the Bible does not intend to convey.

The Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ made up of every believer, and each one of them is a part of it with Jesus as the head of the Church. We believe the Church is an agent of God, given the responsibility to reach out to the world to bring people to Christ. As we are called the heir or children of God, made possible by our faith in Jesus Christ through the sanctification power of the Holy Spirit, we believe all believers are thus brothers and sisters in Christ and the Church is our spiritual family. We believe the mission of the Church is to live out the faith we have in Jesus and to fulfill His Great Commandment and Commission for the Church. The Church ought to be faithful in exercising all the gifts received from the blessings of the Holy Spirit.

Christians and social responsibility

We believe God’s people have the responsibility to be good stewards of God’s creation of this world. As Christians we must follow the teaching of the Bible not to oppress the marginalized, the poor, the weak, and the helpless. We believe Christian worship involves the love for all people regardless of their nationality, color, race, gender, and social status. Also, in worship we want to include people of all tribes and nations, the rich and the poor, the able and the unable, the young and old, the men and women. We believe as God’s redeemed people we need to make peace with fellow human beings, believers or nonbelievers, to preserve life and avoid war. We need to have and maintain the highest ethical standard, exemplified and taught by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Eschatology

We believe in the second coming of Christ—that Jesus will return as the glorious king on the day and hour that no one knows except God the Father. We believe in the existence of hell and heaven even though they are invisible to this physical realm. We believe God’s people who have their names written in the book of life through the salvation of Jesus Christ will go to heaven. We believe God’s people will be resurrected upon Jesus’ return as He promised in Scripture: those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. We believe in eschatological time, Satan and all his evil followers will be cast down into the lake of fire and will not be able to corrupt the new city coming out of heaven from God.
